Let's learn about the differences between credit and non-credit programs in overseas university TESOL courses.

Which is more trustworthy, a program registered with the PTIB (Public Education Board of Canada) or a non-credit program not registered with the (country's) education board?

What is the Canadian Provincial PTIB?

Canada, Glenn College

Located in Vancouver, Glenn College offers accredited career programs and TESOL courses to help you develop the skills you need for the workplace.

Glenn College is certified by PTIB

: A regulatory agency under the Ministry of Postsecondary Education and Technical Training in British Columbia, Canada, that ensures that private educational institutions adhere to certain educational standards and regulations.

: Glenn College programs accredited by PTIB meet these rigorous standards and provide students with a recognized and trusted education.

: Glenn College's Entrance TEST is a PTIB-reviewed and approved course.

What is a PTIB-registered education program?

: PTIB is an agency of the British Columbia (BC) government that manages and accredits private education institutions. Programs registered with PTIB have the following characteristics:

(Advantages)

  • High reliability due to provincial government accreditation
  • Guaranteed quality of program and professionalism of instructors
  • Official recognition of diploma or certificate
  • Can be used in employment or immigration processes
  • Guaranteed stability and systematic management of education programs

(Cons)

  • Relatively high cost
  • Schedule and curriculum may be more rigorous

PTIB registered courses are suitable for those who require formal qualifications or wish to advance their careers.

(Among other university programs) Check if the program is registered with the education office

When choosing a course, the accreditation of the course is an important selection criterion. In particular, if you compare the program registered with the Canadian provincial PTIB with a non-credit program not registered with the education office, you can confirm the reliability of Glenn College TESOL.

Even if it is advertised as a TESOL from a foreign national/public university, if you look closely, it is actually a certificate course, and in most cases, it is operated as a language course rather than a specialized course of the national/public university, so a diploma is not issued, but a certificate is issued.

(Among other colleges) What are non-credit programs that are not registered with the Department of Education?

: non-credit programs are courses of study that do not offer credits and are typically designed for lifelong learning, hobbies, self-improvement, or the acquisition of specific skills. These programs have the following characteristics:

(Advantages)

  • Relatively low cost
  • Flexible study schedule
  • Ability to focus on a specific field

(Cons)

  • No formal accreditation or degree
  • May be less credible in the job market
  • Requires additional study if you want to earn credits or a degree

To get credits recognized by another university?

You must have your credits transferred through the Credit Transfer process.

Glenn College TESOL Introduction

Before we get into the actual Module 1 lecture, this video consists of Professor Allan explaining the overall online TESOL program process, grading method, etc. The introduction videos are shorter than the main lecture videos, so you can watch all the videos in about 20 minutes.

TESOL Module 1 ~ 5

You will begin watching the lecture in earnest, and the progress method is simple.

Download the textbook | Watch the lecture video | Submit the quiz after reviewing (30-minute time limit)

What is the average viewing time per day?

The video is about 25 minutes long. A total of 59 videos x 30 minutes = about 30 hours

Some people invest 1-2 hours a day or do it all on the weekends, so it is not difficult to finish it in 6 weeks.

In fact, many office workers, housewives, and parents are taking the course.

TESOL Midterm Exam

In the Glenn College online TESOL course,

there are many mid-term submissions, including module quizzes, midterms, finals, and final assignments.

If you have watched the lectures and submitted the quizzes for modules 1-5, you will take a midterm that covers the content of the five modules.

The midterm and final are worth 18 points each, making them important exams after the final assignment.

In preparation for writing the final assignment lesson plan,

it is also important to attend all lectures without missing any of them, as they are mentioned in the middle of the lectures and in the midterms.

TESOL Module 6 ~ 10

Modules 6-10 are also similar, and you will submit a quiz after watching each module lecture.

Just like the first half, the second half also includes a lecture on lesson plans, so you must watch it all the way through to get a good score.

TESOL Final Test and Final Assignment (Lesson Plan)

After watching all the lectures, you will submit the final exam and final assignment.

The last final assignment is to write a lesson plan.

The lesson plan, which was daunting at first, is not difficult at all after listening to the lectures.

What does it mean to write a lesson plan?

If you can write a lesson plan,

it means that you can decide on learning objectives, progress method, materials, etc., and plan the entire process from start to finish, so by writing a lesson plan, you can apply everything you learned in the course through the lesson plan.

The final assignment is graded directly by the teacher, and you can receive very detailed feedback.

Most of the official English exams that you usually know have an expiration date. (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc.)

So, after the expiration date, you have to renew it, right?

Tesolincanada's Glenn College Diploma is different. Once you obtain the certificate, it is a certificate that can be used for life without an expiration date.

This does not apply to private qualifications such as national technical qualifications.

Therefore, it can only be obtained in English-speaking countries. That is why it is very important to choose an educational institution that is recognized as credible.

First, you should carefully check whether it is issued in an English-speaking country (such as Canada, the United States, or Australia), whether it is a credible institution, and what the curriculum is.

To verify that it is a credible institution, in the case of Canada, you can check the DLI No., and in the case of the United States, you can check the Apostille Notarization.

Therefore, Glenn College is an official educational institution accredited by the BC Government of Canada and is a credible institution that has been granted a DLI number, so even if you take classes online and receive a certificate, it can be used in the same way as offline, and it can be recognized anywhere in the world.

Diploma issuance is possible at Glenn College.

To be more precise, let's find out why Glenn College can issue Diploma.

Glenn College is certified by PTIB

PTIB (Private Training Institutions Branch)

: A regulatory agency under the Ministry of Post-secondary Education and Technical Training in British Columbia, Canada, that ensures that private education institutions adhere to certain educational standards and regulations. Glenn College programs accredited by PTIB meet these rigorous standards, providing students with a recognized and trusted education.

PTIB Inspection

: Glenn College is improving the quality of its programs by verifying its curriculum and undergoing inspections of relevant parts. In addition, it verifies not only the curriculum of the program but also the overall school administration, teacher qualifications, and compliance with regulations in various aspects.

Entrace TEST

: Glenn College's Entrance TEST, the entrance test is a PTIB-reviewed and approved course, and requires proof of English language proficiency through subject standards or the Glenn College Entrance TEST.

STEP 01.

First, if you look at the PTIB homepage, you can see a list of Canadian schools in the intermediate directory.

 https://www.privatetraininginstitutions.gov.bc.ca/

STEP 02.

PTIB classifies schools into three levels: Registration, Interim Designation, and Designation.

Designation is the final step, and only educational institutions with Designation will be granted visas (student visas, work visas) by the Canadian government.

If you look at the Designation description on the right below, you can see that it is marked as a school with the highest level of education.

STEP 03.

Search for Glenn College in the Directory and look at the Program List to see the list of approved programs at Glenn College.

You can see each program level (A class, B class, C class, N/A) and the approved (approval) programs.

STEP 04.

When you click on the TESOL course, Glenn College TESOL is listed as an Approved program and a Diploma program.

Even if a third-party TESOL public university advertises TESOL, if you look closely, it is actually a certificate course, and in most cases, it is operated as a language course rather than a major course of the public school, so a certificate is issued instead of a diploma.

In the case of Glenn College TESOL, unlike other TEOSOLs, it is possible to issue a diploma because it has been approved as a major course by the Canadian government.

What kind of school is Glenn College?

Glenn College is a school centered on professional career programs, and operates offline in Hospitality and IATA CAGO, and online in TESOL, interpretation, and medical English.

Therefore, the online programs of the existing Global College have been transferred to Glenn College and are now being operated.

Are Glenn College and Global College different schools?

Global College was established and operated in 2002, and in 2016, it was divided into a branch with a specialized career program, and Glenn College was established.

Glenn College and Global College are sister schools as branches, and Glenn College is a school specializing in career programs.

In other words, it is a sister school that was divided into a Career College (Glenn College) that handles specialized programs and a College (Global College) that handles ESL and basic English courses.

Canada Glenn College is a language school??

When the online TESOL course was first opened, the Global College TESOL course was registered as an ESL course.

A few years later, Glenn College (a professional course university) was established, and it was officially registered with the Canadian government as a career college that operates TESOL, interpretation and translation, medical English, and hotel management programs, and became a sister school of Global College.

An important point is that Glenn College is an educational institution that has completed registration with the PTIB, the Canadian government education department.

Rather, most of the courses at overseas national universities do not have TESOL as a professional course. Please check carefully whether many other TESOL courses are part of the language course and whether they are language courses or career courses.
